Adventures for a Coward

I realized, perhaps too late in the game, that I should have a better web presence, one that didn’t involve my agent page, Yelp or LinkedIn.  A personal presence.   So here we go…

In the real estate market, there are literally hundreds of people who want to make money off the biggest financial decision you may make in your life (or at least this decade).  I’m not about to say that I’m not interested in making money- my family still would like to eat a meal once in a while- but I’m more interested in making connections.  Connections that are strong enough to grow over the years, to bridge people together, to broaden my own horizons and to help others broaden theirs.

On Conan O’Brien’s last Tonight Show appearance, he made a lovely speech about his career in late night.  The last bit has always stuck with me and it guides my work daily.  It’s literally the first thing that I see when I sit down to my desk in the morning as I hung a screen print of the last bit directly over my desk, looming over every bit of work I do there.

“To all the people watching, I can never thank you enough for your kindness to me and I’ll think about it for the rest of my life. All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen.”

Here’s the thing:  cynicism is very easy. But as Mr O’Brien rightly states, hard work and a fantastic attitude can’t help but steer you towards success. I want success in my life and the lives that I touch in this crazy profession. So, I try to be kind and I try to work hard, and hopefully, amazing things will happen.
